About

I've been drawing since an early age, encouraged by one of my three uncles who were professional artists.  I first picked up a brush and tried acrylics only a few years ago.  Now a petroleum engineering professor at Texas Tech, painting was initially a means of escape from the constant stress of working in the oilfield services industry.

While acrylics continue to be my favorite mediums, I have recently begun experimenting with oils and continue working with graphite and colored pencil.  My subjects range from wildlife and landscapes to portraiture.

Being entirely self-taught, I am mostly inspired by the challenge of learning something new every time I stand in front of a blank canvas or piece of paper.  Undertaking each work with no clear end in mind, I usually follow the advice of my favorite uncle:

"Boy, just paint."
